The public comment period for the Big Lake Airport Master Plan's final report began on December 15, 2020 and as been extended to January 25, 2021.

Welcome

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is preparing the Big Lake Airport Master Plan, with the help of DOWL, an airport planning firm. The Master Plan will map out a 20 year plan for airport development.

Some critical questions to be addressed in the plan include:

  • What are the short and long term needs for Big Lake Airport with regard to:
    • Airport maintenance
    • Lease areas
    • Tie downs
    • FAA safety standards such as safe approaches, safety areas, and object free areas
    • On and off-airport land uses
    • Vehicle, pedestrian, and floatplane access
  • Should large changes be made to Big Lake Airport with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant funds or should only minor changes be made without FAA funds? FAA grant funds come with many extra requirements called grant assurances.
